Around 15 months toddlers become interested in pouring liquids of all kinds. I noticed J showing interest around that same time. I did look at some pouring stations online, but they were way too expensive. So I decided to make a simple one myself. This was my setup:
You’ll need the following for the activity:
- A wide shallow box. I bought this gray box here. You can get a cheaper one in the dollar store. I had to get a sturdier one as my little guy broke through 2 of them that I got from there!
- A wide variety of jugs and mugs. I also added a few measuring cups as they are really easy for the little hands to pour with.
- Of course water. I added some food coloring to them. It’s optional, but not necessary.
That’s it! You just let the little figure it out. Mine poured the first jug out, but he got the hang of it. He especially loved using the measuring cups, pour one color water into the other. Hey, it’s never to early to learn secondary colors. I hope your toddler had as much fun with this activity as mine had.
