This activity was born out of the many Amazon boxes lying around in my house. As I searched online for toddler DIY activities that we could create with these boxes, I found some pretty amazing, yet easy activities I could do for J. My favorites are:
* Snowflake drop
* Sorting drop box
Supplies needed:
- 2 Amazon boxes / any box really
- Paint – if needed
First, I cut different shapes out of one Amazon box. I then taped the other box and made a little slot big enough for the cardboard cut-out shapes to get into. I also colored them, mainly for my own sake, hehe.
How we introduced Push activity
We first went about introducing the concept of ‘posting’ by using post-its. You can find the entire description in this blog post.
Introducing the cut-out shapes
I put the shapes a bowl for him to explore the shapes and colors. I also explained the colors and the names of the shapes as I did this.
The next day I kept a water jug near him, and I showed him how to post a cut-out shape in the jug. He easily caught on this time. I mainly did this, as the water jug has bigger circumference and easier to post in.
Posting the Shapes in the box
Finally we tried the post-it activity with the box. I just had to show him once, and he went through most of the shapes patiently. He did start banging and playing with the box in the end, but even that was such a treat to watch.
