J is now 2.5 yrs old and we have been teaching him to pray for what he is thankful for at night (with lots of help from us). So this Thanksgiving we, as a family decided to a Thanksgiving tree together. I was looking at some ideas on Pinterest, he could not find much for a toddler to be involved in. I decided to do a sticky wall version with J because this version of any activity.
The setup for this activity :
- Contact paper
- Making tape
- Stickers ( I used some from his favorite sticker book I found on Amazon)
- Construction paper
I cut out a tree shape out of the brown construction paper and some leaf shapes out of Fall color papers. Then I categorized the stickers into groups such as – fruits, parts of the body, toys, etc. I stuck all the stickers of one category one leaf, so that each leaf will be of one category. Then comes the final setup – I faxed the contract paper on the wall with tape and stuck just the bare tree shape onto it.
Now for the fun part! We guided J to stick the leaves onto the tree saying what he is thankful about. He had fun identifying the category and sticking it to the tree.
My husband and I filled the rest of the leaves with things we are thankful about as a family. It was great to think on God’s goodness over the year and put it in words. We left a few leaves empty so we can fill them out this week as we ponder more and train ourselves to be thankful on the season we are in.
