How do we teach faithfulness to our kids? For my almost 3 yr old toddler, the best way to learn is to show him examples, or by using pictures. So our activity included both -pictures to show what faithfulness means and showing him how to sort the right from wrong.
SETUP
You will need the following for this activity :
- Any cardboard box, I used an Amazon box.
- A good combination of pictures to represent right vs wrong. I got a collection of pictures from Google, printed and laminated them. You can use my collection from here and here if you prefer.
- A gallon Ziploc bag.
- Masking tape.
- Markers.
Draw Odie or any other cartoon character that your toddler likes. Cut out the tummy and mouth of the character. Turn the box and tape the top and sides of the Ziploc bag to the box as shown. Now cut out the Ziploc where your character mouth was, so that when you drop a picture inside is mouth, it will go directly inside the bag. Make sure you can take the pictures out of the Ziploc bag.
For the activity, we went through all the print outs and showed him right from wrong. Actions like -reading the Bible, praying or helping out a friend would be examples of faithfulness, while grumpiness, throwing a tantrum or bullying others would be the opposite of faithfulness. I asked J to feed Odie the good actions, and throw the bad actions away.
The first round of the activity, I helped him identify the good ones and guided him to throw the bad ones. The second time around he identified the actions himself and enjoyed doing it himself. He especially liked seeing the pictures he dropped inside Odie’s tummy.
This is a great starting point for a toddler to know right from wrong, and teach him what Faithfulness means.
