Frozen PomPom activity

We did this activity this week and this will be some activity we will keep doing it throughout the Fall/Winter season.

J is just learning to say a few words and this is a great activity to teach them words like ‘ice’, ‘cold’ and ‘melting’. I even got something like ‘coo’ in the end. It was pretty cool.

You will need the following for this activity:

  • A storage container, that I got from the Dollar store. I chose the smaller one this time as its easier for him to concentrate on the words.
  • PomPoms. I got these at the dollar store as well. I also found a larger quantity here on Amazon.
  • Ice cube tray. I got them from Amazon.
  • An Art floor mat. This might be the wisest purchase I made. It makes clean up so much easier.

The prep for this activity is so easy. You place one pompom in each slot and fill the trays with water. The freezing time depends on the child’s age I would say. The younger the child is, the less time you have to keep him interested. He will not be too interested in waiting for the ice too melt. I freeze it for 2 hours, and I think it was just perfect. I might increase the time as he grows up.

The activity is very enthralling for toddlers. My toddler was very interested in getting the PomPoms out of the ice. While he was waiting, I had the chance to introduce new words and show the ice melting. I hope you have a great time doing this activity.
